The May 2021 Snap Shots features Nicole Hudgins, author of “The Gender of Photography,” who will give a Zoom meeting presentation on her book Sunday, May 2, 2021. The talk explores why and how 19th-century photographic institutions insisted on masculine values and authority, and how women engaged with photography despite that dominant trend. Other items include: Dora Goodman’s 3D-printed medium-format camera (above) as an open-source project; a donation by New York’s Howard Greenburg Gallery to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts of photographs from the Lodz Ghetto; a notice on the passing of Henry Weisenburger, PHSNE Charter and Honorary Life member, and multi-year officer and board member-at-large; and an update on the ongoing controversy over the Zealy Daguerreotypes in Harvard’s collection.
What the heck…
