☞A collaboration between Historic Newton, Newton Community Pride, and The City of Newton, has established the Newton Community Cameras project to record the impact of COVID-19 on Newton. You are encouraged to submit a still photo, taken in Newton, with a description of its significance, to this contest by June 30. All photos submitted will be archived at Historic Newton for future generations to view and learn about life here during the COVID-19 pandemic. From the submissions, 20 will be selected to be part of a public exhibition at the City Hall Galleries sometime in the future. You can find information at newtoncommunitypride.org/photos.
☞Alan Kattelle's collecton display case and some 16mm projectors are looking for a good home. See Display Case for details.
☞The June issue of snap shots is now available online at June snap shots online.
The Photographic Historical Society of New England (PHSNE):1
• Promotes an interest in, and a knowledge of, our photographic history and heritage, including the invention and advancement of apparatus and processes, and the related literature; and
• Promotes friendship among those interested in the collection and history of photography and provides an atmosphere within which those persons can share their knowledge and benefit from the knowledge of others.
The Society, founded April 8, 1973, has continued to operate under these aims and goals, using trade shows, publications, monthly presentations, outreach to the photographic educational community, and the Web to preserve and promote the history of photography.

PHSNE's School Outreach Program helps support public and, private schools, colleges, art institutes and summer camp photography instructors and their students. Especially as expressed by traditional (analog) photography and related darkroom practices. PHSNE does this by providing, for free, donated 35mm SLR film cameras and enlargers to programs in need of these items. See Outreach for more details and contact information.
Photographica & Auction
PHSNE sponsors the popular Photographica Show and sale in the Boston area in the spring. The Photographica Show offers members and the public an opportunity to browse and buy images, antique and usable cameras, equipment and ephemera. Some attend the Photographica Show to sell photographic items to dealer-members from throughout the world. See Photographica for more details and contacts info.
PHSNE holds two auctions each year. The largest is held at the spring Photographica Show. A second, typically smaller, auction is held as a monthly meeting, usually in late fall or early winter. Both auctions are open to the public for bidding and for consignment on a space available basis. See Auction for more details and contacts info.
Due to the COVID-19 social distancing and stay-at-home advisories, PHSNE activities at 47 Calvary St including processing physical donations, consignments, school outreach pickups, physical mail, phone messages, and checks to PHSNE are suspended. Emails are being processed.
